Entertainment-TV events on February 21st
In 1981, Charles Rocket in a Saturday Night Live skit at the end of the show clearly said the naughty "f" word live on the East coast feed of NBC-TV. At closing credits time, Charlene Tilton, the guest host, was saying goodbye to the audience when Charles Rocket, who was in a "Who Shot J.R." sketch with her in the previous segment, then asks "who the 'f' did it?" and the audience roared. Charles received a five-letter "F" word the following month...FIRED! You could say that a ... ROCKET ... was fired from New York. Oh, and "SNL" musical guest Prince also uses that same funky four-letter word in his performance of the song "Partyup."
In 1992, fulfilling the sentence for his 1991 indecent exposure charge, actor Paul Reubens produces a public service video warning kids about the dangers of taking illegal drugs, which ironically seemed to be the only way for many over the age of 6 to make sense of his TV series, "Pee Wee's Playhouse."

In 2000, DL PART 1: David Letterman, on his first show back after quintuple bypass surgery, fought back tears as he thanked the doctors and nurses who "saved my life." Otherwise, the "Late Show" host proved heart surgery hasn't softened his cutting humor. During the show, taped the previous Friday, he took shots at CBS, NBC, ABC, Hillary Rodham Clinton, decaffeinated coffee and the Super Bowl halftime show. Looking thinner but otherwise healthy five weeks after his operation, Letterman reached down twice and touched his toes before his monologue. He promised to show his scar but didn't. "After what I've been through," he said, "I'm just happy to be wearing clothes that open in the front."
In 2000, DL PART 2: After the monologue and a surprise visit from Jerry Seinfeld, who dead-panned "I thought you were dead," Letterman became uncharacteristically serious as he brought on stage, one by one, the doctors and nurses involved in his surgery and recovery. Choking up with gratitude, Letterman concluded his introductions by remarking "Five weeks ago, those were the men and women who saved my life."
