Winners were determined by nearly 1,700 comedy performers nationwide, who voted "Analyze," the mafia comedy with a twist of Prozac, the funniest film of 1999, ahead of nominees "American Beauty" and "Being John Malkovich." The awards were handed out during a black-tie gala attended by nearly 1,000 people at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center. The ceremony, the only nationally televised awards presentation to honor comedy performers exclusively in motion pictures and television, will air March 23 during a two-hour special on Fox. This is the first year that the American Comedy Awards have handed out honors for funniest feature film.
