In 1918, Twin Peaks Tunnel, the longest (11/920 feet) streetcar tunnel in the world, began service in San Francisco with the K-Ingleside streetcar. All they were saying was give Peaks a chance.

In 1951, Danish musical satirist Victor Borge gets his own live half-hour on NBC. Included are guest stars, the Phil Ingalls Orchestra and Borge's uniquely witty interpretations of classical piano pieces.
In 1953, "The Today Show" gives Dave Garroway a distinguished chimpanzee cohost named J. Fred Muggs. In the short time the scintillating simian serves as sidekick, he will have visited 42 foreign countries as a goodwill ambassador and met with 3 US Presidents.
In 1966, Gilligan's Island episode #56. "Love Me, Love My Skipper". The Howell's plan a party, and Mr. Howell accidentally looses the Skipper's invitation. The others refuse to attend, believing that the Howells have intentionally snubbed the Skipper.

In 1945, Walt Disney's animated and live-action feature film "The Three Caballeros" was released in movie theaters in the USA. After a brief initial run, Walt Disney pulls the film from general release, due to bad press reviews. It includes the animated short films, "The Cold-Blooded Penguin", "The Flying Gauchito", "Baia", and "Le Pinata", all with Donald Duck.

In 1950, "Rag Mop" by Lionel Hampton entered the Top 40 chart.
In 1950, Ed, Gene, Joe and Vic Ames -- The Ames Brothers -- reached the top of the pop music chart for the first time as their single "Rag Mop" hit the No. 1 spot.
In 1958, "Short Shorts" by Royal Teens entered the Top 40 chart.
In 1959, In the words of Don McLean, "it was the day the music died." It was "the day the music died" as a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, claimed the lives of rock 'n' roll stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson. As we mentioned yesterday, Waylon Jennings, who played the drums for them the night before, did not board the plane. The 1972 song "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" by Don McLean mentioned the "Day the Music Died" prominently in the eight-minute song, on a lighter note, note that Don McLean mispronounced the month they died as "Feb-U-ary" instead of "Fe-BRU-ary."

In 2001, The XFL (Xtreme Football League), founded by the World Wrestling Federation and jointly owned by NBC, held its first two games, in which the Las Vegas Outlaws beat the New York/New Jersey Hitmen, 19-0, and the Orlando Rage beat the Chicago Enforcers 33-29. This Dave in History (David Letterman)

In 1982, After Hank Aaron is interviewed on the show, he leaves the set and is interviewed again by WNBC-TV's Al Albert (Marv's brother), asking him how the earlier interview went.
