In 1961, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is born. Not just Elaine Benes on "Seinfeld," she was a regular cast member of "Saturday Night Live" from 1982-85. And she's married to another "SNL" castmember, Brad Hall.

In 1962, comedian Ernie Kovacs, behind the wheel of his white Chevrolet Corvair station wagon, was killed instantly when the car skidded out of control and slammed into a utility pole in West Los Angeles, California; he was 42. Ironically, over 20 years later, in May of 1982, Kovacs' daughter Mia (by wife Edie Adams) was also was killed in a similar automobile accident.
In 1966, Gilligan's Island episode #53. "You've Been Disconnected". A storm washes up a Trans-continental telephone cable up into the lagoon. Once again the Castaways are given hope for a rescue, as the Professor manages to break into the cable and rig up a telephone so they can dial out for help.

In 1972, it's essentially Garry Marshall's version of prime time for Bonzo with CBS's "Me and the Chimp" starring Ted Bessel and Anita Gillette as new owners of a runaway chimp named "Buttons." Once again proving the old showbiz axiom you should never intentionally work with animals, or Anita Gillette. One of the worst TV series ever made a monkey's uncle out of CBS, and was recaged months later.

Now the five-inch gremlin-like creatures are wanted again, this time by the nation's supersecret spy agency: Furbys could pose the latest threat to national security. The National Security Agency banned the popular pets from its Fort Meade premises in Maryland. The NSA issued a warning about the toy, which is embedded with a computer chip that allows it to utters 200 words. "Personally owned photographic, video and audio recording equipment are prohibited items. This includes toys, such as 'Furbys,' with built-in recorders that repeat the audio with synthesized sound to mimic the original signal," the Furby Alert read.
