In 1990, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy closed to tourists after eventually leaning too far and becoming structurally unsafe. After 11 years of construction work to decrease its dangerous tilt and stabilize its foundation, the tower reopened to the public on December 15, 2001.

In 1972, in a Brady Bunch episode called "Big Little Man", Bobby Brady tries to prove to his family that he is a lot bigger than his size, annoyed at being so small, Bobby tries exercises to make himself taller. When that doesn't work, he decides to become a mental giant.

Arts and Prose events on January 7th

In 1912, cartoonist Charles Addams was born in Westfield, New Jersey. While in high school he started drawing and submitting cartoons for publication; his dream was to work at The New Yorker magazine, which came true full-time in 1940. He continued with the magazine up until his death, drawing over 1,300 cartoons. His most famous creation was that of the spooky Addams Family, a morbidly strange family of characters that were later featured in the 1960s TV series by the same name starring John Astin and Carolyn Jones; several motion pictures were also released in the 1990s based on the macabre family. Addams died of heart failure on September 28, 1988.

In 1963, in a case filed under Copycat Corner, Gary U.S. Bonds sued Chubby Checker for plaglarism, claiming that Chubby's "Dancing Party" sounds too much like Gary's "Quarter to Three", the 1961 hit by Bonds. The suit is settled out of court.
In 1978, R.C., "Bloat On (Featuring The Bloaters)" by Cheech & Chong peaked at #41 on the pop singles chart.
In 1982, "Hooked on Classics," using the extended medley format made popular by "Stars on 45," sets popular classical music to a disco beat. The result: It goes platinum on this date.
