In 1954, NBC adds some bells and whistles to its schedule with the offbeat sounds of "The Spike Jones Show." The show will run until May on the peacock network, then return to CBS in 1957.
In 1961, the townsfolk on "The Andy Griffith Show" overact more than normal when "Mayberry Goes Hollywood." Thirteen shows into the series run, it's the first episode to feature Howard McNear as "Floyd, the Barber."
In 1965, Gilligan's Island episode #14. "Water, Water Everywhere". guest: Mel Blanc as the voice of Ribbit the Frog. Talk about a painful irony: though surrounded by water, the Castaways suddenly discover that their supply of fresh drinking water is running out. When they pool all available drinking water together and decide to ration it, they discover that they will each receive only a few drops per day. Of course, most of the castaways sneak water from the community supply when Gilligan is standing watch, but return it when the Skipper catches them. Just when all seems lost, Gilligan saves the day!

In 1967, Gilligan's Island episode #84. "Take a Dare". George Barkley (Strother Martin) enters the "Take a Dare Contest". He will receive $10,000 if he can spend a week alone on an island, fending for himself. However, he is not alone on the island on which they drop him. Once again, however, rescue eludes the castaways as Mr. Barkley deduces that he can not tell anyone about the castaways without having to forfeit the $10,000 for not spending the week alone.
In 1970, in a Brady Bunch episode called "Father of the Year", Marcia's attempt to keep secret the fact that she's entering her stepfather in a "Father of the Year" contest causes her discipline problems at home; after Mike shows her how important she is to him, Marcia enters him in a newspaper contest. But as she tries to hide what she's doing, she gets herself grounded for a week.

In 1941, the Andrews Sisters recorded "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" in Los Angeles for Decca Records; the song was featured in the movie "Buck Privates," starring Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. The song later became a hit for Bette Midler as well.
In 1954, "Dear John & Marsha Letter" Makes The Pop Chart by Stan Freberg; will peak at #23.
