In 1879, actor-humorist-cowboy Will (William Penn Adair) Rogers was born in Colagah, Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). An immensely popular entertainer and homespun philosopher whose roots were part Cherokee, Rogers is known for his quote, “I never met a man I didnʹt like,” and also served a term as mayor of Beverly Hills, California. He starred in such films as “Laughing Bill Hyde,” “The Strange Boarder,” “Boys Will Be Boys,” “The Headless Horseman,” “A Connecticut Yankee,” “State Fair,” “Life Begins at 40” and “Steamboat 'Round the Bend,” and is the subject of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, “The Will Rogers Follies.” He and his pilot, aviator Wiley Post, were killed when their plane crashed at Point Barrow, Alaska, on August 15, 1935.

In 1879, Will Rogers, U.S. actor, humorist and author, born. Made his Broadway debut in “The Wall StreetGirl” in 1912 and starred in films such as “State Fair,” “Judge Priest” and “Steamboat Round the Bend.” Died in a plane crash in 1935.

In 1922, It is considered one of the more important archaeological discoveries of modern times as British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb of ancient Egyptʹs child-king, Tutankhamen, near Luxor. “Tut” became pharaoh at the age of nine and died, probably in 1352 B.C., at age 19. In the mid-1970s, the treasures of Tutankhamen toured U.S. museums and inspired comedian Steve Martin to write a song about the boy-king who “had a condo made of stone-ah.”

George Pataki.)
