"Please Please Me" by The Beatles hits #1 on the British pop chart. It was their first #1 hit. (1963)

A week after their debut appearance, The Beatles perform for the second time on "The Ed Sullivan Show" -- this time they aren't in the studio, they're performing live from the Deauville Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. 70 million people watch. (1964)

George and Patti Harrison and John and Cynthia Lennon fly to India for two months of transcendental meditation study with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Ringo and Maureen Starr, Paul McCartney, Jane Asher, Mia Farrow and Donovan join the fun three days later. The Starrs return to England before the fortnight is up, complaining about the spicy food. Elvis Presley's fourth gospel album, "How Great Thou Art" is certified gold. The album includes Presley's 1965 #3 hit, "Crying in the Chapel." (1968)

Aretha Franklin day is declared in Detroit. (1968)

Alan David Pasaro, the Hell's Angel who was tried and later acquitted for the stabbing death of Meredith Hunter at the Altamont Speedway in 1969, sues the Rolling Stones, charging an invasion of privacy because the Maysles brothers' film of the event, "Gimme Shelter," showed the stabbing. (1971)

Elton John releases "Bennie and the Jets." The song would eventually make it to #1. (1974)

Led Zeppelin's "Fool in the Rain" from "In Through The Out Door" peaks at #21 on the pop chart. (1980)

Hall & Oates' "Method Of Modern Love" peaks at #5 on the chart. (1985)

Journey lead singer Steve Perry 's "Foolish Heart" peaks at #18 on the chart. (1985)

Pat Benatar and Neil Geraldo become parents to daughter Haley. (1985)

Billy Vera receives a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. (1988)

Ike Turner is sentenced to 4 years in prison on cocaine charges. (1990)

INXS' "Disappear" peaks at #8 on the chart. (1991)

Mick Jagger spends the night in a Tokyo airport hotel because he didn't have proper papers to enter the country. Eventually Japanese Immigration officials issued him a visa and he went on his way. (1992)

A Faces reunion takes place at the Brit Awards in London. Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Ian McLagan, Kenny Jones and Bill Wyman (who was filling in for the sick Ronnie Lane) perform "Stay With Me" and "Sweet Little Rock 'n Roller. (1993)
