The Kingston Trio one of the foremost groups behind the current folk music revival in the country, receive the first gold record for "Tom Dooley." (1959)

Singer Jackie Wilson, whose most recent hit is "My Heart Belongs to Only You," appears on "The Ed Sullivan Show." (1962)

The Animals cancel a show for New York's Apollo Theater after the U.S. Immigration Department, continuing its crackdown on U.K. bands, forces the group to leave the theater. Their only New York appearance is on the "Ed Sullivan Show." (1965)

The Rolling Stones along with Roy Orbison arrive in Sydney, Australia to start a tour of Down Under. (1965)

The Byrds record "Mr. Tambourine Man". It was produced by Doris Day's son Terry Melcher. (1965)

Beatle George Harrison marries his longtime girlfriend, fashion model Patti Boyd. The two met on the set of the Beatles' first movie, "A Hard Day's Night." She leaves Harrison in the mid-'70s to take up with neighbor Eric Clapton who would write the song "Layla" about her and who she would marry in May 1979. (1966)

At the insistence of his son Chip, then governor of Georgia, Jimmy Carter invites Bob Dylan to a post-concert party at his mansion. Says Carter of the musician, "(Dylan) never intiates conversation, but he'll answer a question if you ask him." (1974)

Blues guitar giant B.B. King donates his entire record collection (including about 7,000 rare blues records he played when he was a disc jockey) to the University of Mississippi's Center for the Study of Southern Culture. (1982)

Jackie Wilson dies of a long illness following a stroke in 1975. He was 49 years old. (1984)

Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart" peaks at #1 on the pop chart. (1984)

Leonard Chess, the Coasters, Eddie Cochran, Bo Diddley, Aretha Franklin, Ahmet Ertegun, Marvin Gaye, Bill Haley, Louis Jordan, B.B. King, Leiber and Stoller, Clyde McPhatter, Ricky Nelson, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Smokey Robinson, Big Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, Jery Wexler, Hank Williams and Jackie Wilson are inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. (1987)

MTV's very successful "Unplugged" show makes its debut, with Squeeze as the first performers. (1990)

Cannibal and the Headhunters lead singer Francisco Garcia dies at the age of 49. (1996)

Col. Tom Parker, Elvis Presley's manager, dies. (1997)
